Containing the spread of COVID-19 has brought on difficult times for countless families, businesses and communities as people have had to adjust their daily lives, schedules and even incomes. As the world comes to a halt to help stop the spread of the new coronavirus, Cincinnati’s Playhouse in the Park is working to provide members of the Cincinnati community with one thing the world could use a little bit of: Hope.
“Cincinnati Playhouse is proud to announce that we’ve commissioned 10 local playwrights to write monologues on the theme of hope. Each of these monologues will be performed by local actors, and will be posted on our social media pages in the days and weeks to come,” said Playhouse in the Park Artistic Director Blake Robison in a Facebook video. “This is our way of supporting local artists and reaching out to you at the same time."
The monologues are poised to be a fresh, interactive way for members of the community to be distracted from the current stress-inducing climate.
The Playhouse recently had to cancel its run of Destiny of Desire due to restrictions over COVID-19, and is considering the possibility of postponing Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express (slated for April 11-May 9) and Becoming Doctor Ruth (May 9-June 21) until this summer.
