While many musicians are moving to online platforms to share their music amid coronavirus social distancing, a Northern Kentucky private music teacher is switching things up a bit.
Bryan McCartney, a Bellevue resident with a studio in the neighborhood, kicked off his Trunk Bed Sing-Along Tour on March 25.
The premise is quite simple: Folks throughout the Bellevue community can sign up for a time and day for McCartney to perform three songs outside of their home for them and their neighbors to enjoy from their porches.
"This is NOT another virtual performance to watch on your computer, this is a live performance on your street. I will be driving my truck around Bellevue and parking it in front of your house to play my piano, leading a sing along for you and all your neighbors," the tour's Facebook page reads.
McCartney will send over a flyer and lyric sheet for whoever reserves a spot to hand out to their neighbors, asking for participants to bring out their own instruments to play along.
"I am a full time private music teacher with my own studio here in Bellevue and in Florence, providing for my wonderful stay-at-home wife and two kids," McCartney wrote on the tour's Facebook page. "My passion is to bring the love of music to all my students, and right now I am driven to bring an opportunity for you at your quarantined home!"
A live sing-along performance costs $30 and lasts about 15 minutes. Last week, the playlists were predetermined, but this week McCartney says he will add three new songs and those who would like to reserve a spot can choose from last week's songs and this week's three new songs. Last week, the three songs McCartney performed were "Hey Jude," "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" and "I Will Survive."
While the tour has stayed within Bellevue thus far, it appears the truck is heading to neighboring Dayton, Kentucky this week.
And McCartney says other cities may follow suit.
"My plan was just for Bellevue at first, but I’ve been getting a lot of interest from other cities (obviously still in Cincy area)," he says via email. "I’m considering opening up to it."
