The 15th-annual Fall Feast at the Duke Energy Convention Center — a free community meal and health event to help those in need on Thanksgiving — has been canceled due to COVID-19.
But organizers are still making sure Thanksgiving meals are delivered with the help of other local organizations.
Launched by nonprofit Give Back Cincinnati in 2005, this year's special Fall Feast aims to "serve over 5,000 meals to homeless shelters, transitional living homes, senior citizen living, and more. Meal preparation includes more than 1,200 pounds of turkey, 13,000 pounds of green beans, 80 gallons of gravy and 800 pies," says a release.
Matthew 25: Ministries and St. Vincent de Paul will also be distributing warm coats.
“Fall Feast is an event that has always been focused on our community,” said Fall Feast chair Cendi Kegley. “We are deeply grateful to be able to continue to love on our community in a more ‘virus-friendly’ manner.”
Donations are still needed, so if you have a new or gently used coat, you can drop it at Matthew 25: Ministries or any St. Vincent location. You can also donate at fallfeast.org.
Meal deliveries will begin around 9:30 a.m. Nov. 26.
“As an organization founded on uplifting the community and building relationships through volunteerism, Fall Feast exemplifies the spirit of giving back,” said Give Back Cincinnati president Michael Young. “We are incredibly grateful to the volunteers and many community partners who will help make Thanksgiving Day a special one for thousands of people in need. Everyone involved has turned this annual event into a true community celebration that offers more than a meal.”
Fall Feast will return to the Duke Energy Convention Center in 2021.
