Music Tonight: Ohio-bred Roots Rock champion Tim Easton has been absorbing the soul stirring spirit of Joshua Tree, Calif., lately, but he returns to the Buckeye State tonight for a free, 10 p.m. show at MOTR Pub. Local singer/songwriter Jason Ludwig, who has two fantastic albums coming out this weekend, opens. Read Brian Baker's preview of the show here. And here's a gorgeous video for Easton's song "Highway 62 Love Song." Yeah, I can see how Joshua Tree would be a nice place to visit but an even better place to live.—-

Momentous Happenings in Music History for October 12
On this day in 1978, wild-child Sex Pistols bassist Sid Vicious was arrested for the murder of his wild-child girlfriend, Nancy Spungen, the combo Courtney Love/Yoko Ono of the ’70s. There have been theories that Vicious wasn't the killer — some say Nancy could have been killed in a botched robbery or drug deal — but he never got the chance to defend himself in court. On Feb. 2, 1979, Sid died when he was released on $50,000 bail and celebrated with some overly potent heroin. Here's an interesting, thorough overview of the murder from Tru TV.
Born This Day: Musical movers and shakers sharing an Oct. 12 birthday include: Opera superstar Luciano Pavarotti (1935); Sam & Dave soulman Sam Moore (1935); Canadian Folk Pop singer/songwriter Jane Siberry (1955); and Punk and Alternative music pioneer, Husker Du's Bob Mould (1960).
Mould recently released his autobiography, See A Little Light: The Trail of Rage and Melody, which he's "touring" with a show that includes readings and musical performances. Sounds like a lot of work. But Mould has a sweet gig coming up that'll give him a nice rest afterwards — he's "opening" several arena shows for Foo Fighters … doing a DJ set. Then, things get "victory lappy" (deservedly) for the Nov. 21 tribute concert in L.A., See a Little Light: A Celebration of the Music and Legacy of Bob Mould, a sold-out affair at the Walt Disney Concert Hall featuring appearances by Dave Grohl, Best Coast, Margaret Cho, Ryan Adams, Ben Gibbard, No Age and others paying their respects. Will Lou be there?
