Sycamore Township's March First Manufacturing — the company that oversees March First Brewing, Cincinnati Distilling and the recently added FigLeaf Brewing — has acquired the Woodburn Brewery and Taproom in East Walnut Hills.

A release from the brewery says the deal includes the building, brewing equipment and intellectual assets.

“The addition of ‘Woodburn Brewing’ to our portfolio solidifies our spot as one of the largest brewers and distillers in the Cincinnati region," said Josh Engel, March First spokesperson, in a release. “We can’t wait to build on the Woodburn brand and taproom and are thrilled to be part of the East Walnut Hills community. Woodburn Brewing will announce a robust community outreach and event schedule in 2021.”

The company plans to "enhance" the taproom by adding more seating, a lounge area and a kitchen, and will keep the Woodburn name and continue brewing the former's' beers using their same recipes.

"The Woodburn taproom will also feature Cincinnati Distilling products with a full cocktail menu as well as guest taps from March First Brewing, FigLeaf Brewing and the company’s popular Astra Hard Seltzer line," says a release.

“To the Woodburn family, from the owners to the dedicated brewers, bar staff and loyal patrons we would like to thank you for the opportunity to be part of your legacy and community. Woodburn was founded and built on love for the industry and great respect for the neighborhood it calls home. We intend to operate with that in mind and at heart.” said Mark Stuhlreyer, president of March First.

Woodburn isn't the first brewery to be added to the March First brand. March First acquired Middletown's FigLeaf Brewing toward the end of 2019. At that time, the brewery was folded in to March First's existing portfolio and founders Brian Yavorsky and Andy Allgeyer stayed onboard with the new parent company.

March First hopes to have the updated Woodburn open in the spring or summer of 2021, depending on permitting.
