Politwoops: You Can Run, But You Can't Hide

Website recovers deleted tweets from politicians

Some contain blatant spelling and grammatical errors, some are offensive and others just don't make any damn sense. From major gaffe to minor slip-up, tweet aggregator Politwoops has created a Twitter feed-like stream of every tweet deleted by a politician —it's all in the name of transparency, but the results are often hilarious.

The project is headed up by the Sunlight Foundation, a nonpartisan nonprofit interested in using the Internet to promote government openness and honesty.

The site was launched only yesterday, but there are already 306 pages archiving tweets from politicians across every ideological spectrum. They aren't quite as brilliant as Jose Canseco's global warming tweets, but many come close, especially considering these are the people we trust to run our country and not the somewhat illiterate environmental advocate dude who preemptively grieved Al Gore's death.
See what they hoped you wouldn't.

A butt-tweet from South Carolina Congressman James E. Clyburn?

A schizophrenic Newt Gingrich? Maybe a hack from Calista and the aliens?

Tennessee Congressman Steve Fincher likes The Bachelor, OMG!

Reform Party 2012 Presidential Candidate...?

Remember: We all make mistakes. But people care a lot more when you're famous.
