Shuttered to the public since March as a result of COVID-19, the exterior of Music Hall is once again open to exploration via tours hosted by the Friends of Music Hall — a volunteer organization with a "mission to preserve, improve, promote and provide education" about the iconic building.
Built in 1878, this impressive structure is full of rich history, fascinating architecture and more than a few ghost stories. The outdoor tours started up again on Sept. 17 (the interior is still closed) and will continue Thursdays and Saturdays through the end of October. Led by knowledgeable guides from Friends of Music Hall, the tour covers all sorts of history from the symbolism and design that’s embedded in the architecture to the challenges the builders faced, all while providing some insight into what life was like in Cincinnati in 1878.
It is important to note that this is an outdoor-only tour and walking is required. Groups are limited to eight people (if you have a larger group, you can book a private tour by calling 513-744-3293 or sending an email to [email protected]) and social distancing and masks are required.
As with most things now, tickets must be purchased in advance, up to three hours before the tour. Tickets can either be purchased online at friendsofmusichall.org or by calling 513-621-278. Tickets are $15 a person, with a discount if you purchase five or more. For children under 12 and students, the price is $5. They also are offering a 10% discount to members of the Over-the-Rhine Chamber of Commerce, Friends of Music Hall, Cincinnati Arts Association and Certified Tourism Ambassadors.
