Earlier this week we wrote about locally-bred Indie sensations The National having a song featured in the new film Win Win. But there’s a local band that didn’t move to Brooklyn also featured in a prominent independent film coming out soon. Eclectic veteran foursome Buckra has a track in the forthcoming movie Meet Monica Velour, starring Sex in the City/Porky’s actress Kim Cattrall.—-
The band’s saucy ode to big women, “Shake Your Baby Fat,” is featured in the flick, which is due in theaters April 8 (the local opening is yet to be determined). A snippet of the track from Buckra’s 2003 sophomore release, So Many Weapons, is also in the Meet Monica Velour trailer, posted below (the song creeps in about a minute into the video) along with a clip of the same song from the locally-produced film Three Barbecues starring Buckra singer Dylan Speeg. (There's no nudity in either clip, but if you work at a church or something, it may be NSFW due too some scandalous writhing.)
If you are in Dayton this weekend, Buckra plays the Trolley Stop Saturday at 9:30 p.m. The band is also slated to perform at next weekend’s huge local music event, the Clifton Heights Music Festival. Buckra joins The Harlequins, The Ready Stance, Sparrow Bellows and others at the fest on Saturday, April 2, at Murphy’s Pub.
