In honor of the Cincinnati Art Museum's Frank Duveneck: American Master exhibit, the institution has collaborated with local Listermann Brewing Co. to release a novel beer.
Inspired by the art of influential local 19th-century portrait artist and painter Frank Duveneck, the limited-edition brew features four different bottle designs donning the artist's work: "The Whistling Boy;" a self-portrait; "Water Carriers, Venice;" and "Woman with Black Hat."
The beer is a stout, "brewed with dark rock candy sugar and milk sugar," and "is the perfect festive treat for those eager to stay cozy all winter long while paying tribute to the most influential painter in Cincinnati history," says a release.
"It certainly evokes the feeling of tumultuous, simmering emotional energy that I got from a lot of Duveneck’s use of color and structure within his paintings,” says Listermann Head Brewer Jared Lewinski.
The beer is available at Listermann Brewing Co. (1621 Dana Ave.) in Norwood starting Dec. 22.
This is the fourth collaboration between the CAM and Listermann. Past brews have been inspired by exhibits Terracotta Army and the Fabric of India as well as Vincent van Gogh's painting "Undergrowth with Two Figures."
The current Frank Duveneck: American Master exhibition will be on view through March 28, 2021 and features more than 90 of the painter and printmaker's works from the CAM collection — the "leading repository of the Kentucky native's work," per the release — as well as 35 additional Duveneck works from across the U.S.
The CAM is currently closed to the public through the end of the year save for two dates: 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 26 and 27. This is due to the current COVID protocols enacted by Gov. Mike DeWine asking people to continue to mask up, social distance, abided by a nightly curfew and avoid gathering through Jan. 2.
