The Newbees have been flexing their impressive songwriting muscles in the Greater Cincinnati music scene for 15 years now. Like most great Pop Rock bands, the Newbees’ well-constructed, highly-melodic songs show the influence of The Beatles.
Led by Jeff and Misty Perholtz, the group also shows its Fab Four love in more overt ways. The Newbees’ creative Beatles tribute shows have turned a lot of heads, earning them repeated invites to huge Beatles gatherings like Abbey Road on the River near Louisville. At 2017’s ARotR, they did their “Muscle Shoals for Rubber Souls” show, featuring classic Soul-informed covers of the legendary band’s classics; this year they did the “Here Comes the Sun” program, which centers around the many Beatles songs with sun references.
The band (who also lend their interpretive skills to covers of other classic acts’ music) is even participating in the '70s Rock & Romance Cruise early next year, where they’ll rock a cruise ship winding through the waters around Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Haiti alongside Cheap Trick, America, Todd Rundgren, Jefferson Starship, Edgar Winter and more. They’re also doing a sold-out “Flower Power Cruise” later in the year, where they’ll be joined by The Zombies, The Turtles, The Hollies and others.
The night before Thanksgiving, The Newbees will be giving hometown fans a treat by celebrating the classic Beatles album Abbey Road, which turned 50 this year. They’ll be joined by their string and horn sections for the show — The Bee Strings and The Horn-Its, respectively.
