The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden has been voted the best zoo in America by readers of USA Today.
The award comes as part of the paper's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards, for which USA Today's travel experts picked the top 20 nominees in each category ranging from food and lodging to destinations and things to do and then readers made the final decision by a public polling process.
The write-up about the zoo read:
"The Cincinnati Zoo (one of the oldest zoos in the nation) brings visitors nose-to-nose with a range of exciting animals. Guests can view hippos underwater (including superstar Fiona), pop up in a bubble amid meerkats or watch cheetahs racing at top speeds. The multi-sensory Night Hunters exhibit hosts cats and other nocturnal predators, while Manatee Springs seeks the long-term conservation of the Florida manatee by encouraging guests to observe these gentle giants."
“We were honored to be chosen as one of the 20 nominees for Best Zoo and were in great company that included the top zoos in the nation,” said Cincinnati Zoo Director Thane Maynard in a release. “The Cincinnati community loves their zoo and got behind us as soon as the poll was announced. We thank everyone who voted to make us the Best Zoo in the Nation!”
The Cincinnati Zoo also recently took home honors in CityBeat's Best Of Cincinnati 2019 issue, winning reader picks for Best Friend to the Environment, Best Place to Take a Visitor, Best Kid-Friendly Attraction, Best "Old" Thing and Best Cincinnatian for everyone's favorite hippo, Fiona.
