Walnut Hills' White Whale Tattoo is an ink shop with a big heart and plenty of talent. While living in Guatemala in 2007, Jeremiah Griswold, owner of White Whale Tattoo, fell in love with the country and began volunteering in schools and gang prisons in La Limonada, one of Central America’s largest slums, helping design cover-up tattoos for former gang members who were starting over. After realizing this simple artistic endeavor was literally saving lives, Griswold returned to Cincinnati and devoted his life to tattooing, vowing to go back to Guatemala with a team of artists to provide free cover-up services to those in need.
The shop is preparing for their next trip to Guatemala and is partnering with Tokyo Kitty, a Japanese-style karaoke bar located downtown, for a two-day fundraising event with tattoos, cocktails and karaoke. They will be holding a "Flash Day Fundraiser" on Nov. 2 at White Whale Tattoo with predesigned flash tattoos (some of which were designed by artists from Tokyo Kitty) that guests can choose from. If you choose a Tokyo Kitty artist-designed tattoo, you will receive 10-percent off of your tab for life at the bar. Regardless of which tattoo you choose, guests will receive a free cocktail the following day during Tokyo Kitty's evening of hosting.
During the second day of the event, Tokyo Kitty will offer drink specials with proceeds benefiting the trip. Guests can show off their new tattoos, belt out some of their favorite songs and enjoy some tasty drinks while contributing to a cause.
