Music Tonight: Orgone was a pseudoscientific concept concocted in the ’30s based on the idea that good mental health was tied to uninhibited sex. Not surprisingly, artists embraced the theory. A collection of musical artists from Los Angeles adopted it as a band name and tonight, the nine-piece Funk/Soul band performs at the Southgate House with funky local bands The Jive Turkeys and Pharaoh Loosey. Showtime for the all-ages show is 9 p.m. and admission is $10.—-
Excellent local Indie Rock band The Never Setting Suns have been hard at work at Walnut Hills studio The Monastery, finishing up what will be the trio’s second full-length album. The band, which somehow manages to be sparse and expansive in its sound, is playing free shows every Tuesday in July at The Comet in Northside, including tonight, where you’ll no doubt get a preview of some of the band’s latest songs. Show starts at 10 p.m.

Momentous July 12 Happenings in Music History: On this day in 1969, Zager & Evans’ lone hit, “In the Year 2525,” hit No. 1 on the charts and stayed there for six weeks. The so-pretentious-it’s-hilarious song (it was subtitled “Exordium and Terminus,” for chrisakes!) is all about the human race’s fate from the years 2525-9595. I for one can’t wait until 3535, when all of our thoughts and actions will be determined by a pill we take daily. (Spoiler alert: They’re Flinstone chewable vitamins!)
July 12 birthdays include a trio of guitarists — Tim Gane of Stereolab (born in 1964), John Petrucci of Modern Prog faves Dream Theater (1967) and Jesse Pintado, guitarist for Napalm Death whose own death came in 2006 (1969).
Singer/songwriter Minnie Riperton — best known for her hit “Lovin’ You” and for being the mother of comedic actress Maya Rudolph — died after a battle with breast cancer on this day in 1979.
