Weekly news magazine Newsweek recently published a round-up of the top 10 food markets in the world. Guess who made the list? Cincinnati's own Findlay Market.
In fact, our local food market was represented as the best in the entire country, with other global cities mentioned including Torvehallerne Market of Copenhagen, Denmark, Or Tor Kor Market of Bangkok, Thailand and La Boqueria of Barcelona, Spain.
"Since 1852, merchants in Findlay Market have been selling farm-fresh produce, meats (including a local haggis-like creation called goetta) and cheeses to Cincinnatians. In the summer, the indoor market expands outside and welcomes musicians, performers and special events to the mix," the listing reads.
At more than 150 years old, Findlay Market is Ohio’s oldest continually operated public market and an essential destination for visitors and locals alike.
The article explains the importance of the local market and says that to really take in the country's culture, you should plan to make a stop. "To truly experience the people and culture of a country, there is no better place to visit than the local fresh food market," says Paula Froelich, writer for Newsweek.
This isn't the first time OTR's Findlay Market has gotten national recognition. Earlier this year Travel + Leisure name-dropped the market as the 'epicenter of Cincinnati's culinary revival'.
