Inspired by the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage, ArtsWave has been honoring women in the arts with the movement Power of Her.

This movement was designed to celebrate and bring to light the importance of female artists and leaders in the Cincinnati area and their impact on the community.

"At its core, POWER OF HER underscores creativity as a vehicle for inclusion and equality by celebrating the female voice — and the many ways it champions a more diverse and vibrant world," says ArtsWave.

To cap off this 18-month initiative is a fundraiser where you can buy Power of Her merch — just in time for the holiday season. The items are available for purchase at ArtsWave.org/POWERmerch.

The store features everything from T-shirts, mugs and postcards to the now quintessential mask, with branding and design work donated by LPK's Creative Director Jessica Owens Stephens.

There are also three very special items in the shop that have been crafted by local artists to further highlight the mission of Power of Her.

  • Erikka Gray owns the District 78 lifestyle brand and is known for her handcrafted candles. The Power of Her soy-based candle is long burning with a bold scent that Gray hopes represents the strength and daring of all women in Cincinnati.
  • Dawn Grady of Junebug Jewelry Designs, who owns a pop-up store on Vine Street, has created a set of earrings made out of a tarnish-resistant, responsibly sourced and hypoallergenic silver and three semi-precious gemstones. Grady picked these three gemstones because of their symbolism and how they align with the message of Power of Her. For example, she used turquoise, which stands for wisdom, nobility and power.
  • The last special item in the store is a book of 120 essays written by 34 journalists, authors and freelance writers. Edited by Kathy Merchant, former President/CEO of Greater Cincinnati Foundation and ArtsWave Women’s Leadership Roundtable member, this book takes a look at 200 Cincinnati women who have shaped the city and its arts scene.

The items are on sale now through Dec. 7 at ArtsWave.org/POWERmerch. All proceeds will go directly to support the hundreds of ongoing projects and community organizations that ArtsWave funds.

All items will be shipped by Dec. 16 to ensure that they will arrive in time for Christmas.

You can discover more about Power of Her on ArtsWave's website.
