After wowing local audiences at Riverbend and Taft Theatre the past couple of years, "Shock Rock" icon Alice Cooper is coming back to Cincinnati this summer. Cooper's 2019 Cincy show at Riverbend Music Center on Tuesday, July 23 is part of a co-headlining tour with Grammy-winning Hard Rock band Halestorm. Scranton, Pennsylvania metallers Motionless in White open.

Cooper has some cool ties to Cincinnati. He appeared at the infamous Cincinnati Summer Pop Festival in 1970, joining fellow Michigan rockers Bob Seger and Iggy Pop (and others big-timers, like Mott the Hoople, Grand Funk Railroad, Ten Years After and headliners Traffic) at Crosley Field. The show was filmed by local Channel 5 and edited into a syndicated broadcast that aired nationally. It was Iggy's notorious "peanut butter show" and Cooper also offered some interesting stage antics.
As Steve Rosen wrote about the Pop Festival for its 40th anniversary, "the TV show (featured) a bizarre performance-art set by a pre-stardom Alice Cooper in which he tries to hypnotize the audience during 'Black Juju' but gets a piece of cake thrown in his face."
Cooper also lived in Cincinnati for a spell, as he talked about with The Enquirer's Chris Varias before his Riverbend show with Deep Purple in 2017.
