Becca Neighbor grew up in Cincinnati area but eventually relocated to Nashville to pursue her music career. Initially, Neighbor got her feet wet being the tour manager for acclaimed trad-flavored Country singer/songwriter Nikki Lane, who became a friend and musical mentor. Lane encouraged Neighbor to play a set at the massive Stagecoach festival in California (the Country cousin of Coachella), officially kickstarting her life as a solo artist.

Late last year, Neighbor released her debut EP, the excellent five-track Blue Moon Baby. Despite her musical origin story, Neighbor’s sound is a highly catchy brand of Pop Rock, with passionate, well-crafted songs fueled by on-target melodies that really stick in your cranium. There is a little Country/Americana seasoning in Neighbor’s music. The EP’s “I Played Myself” — a duet with fellow Nashville artist Carl Anderson – is a mesmerizingly dreamy slice of rootsiness, with twangy guitars and lap steel. But avowed influences like The Shins, Beach Boys and Margot + The Nuclear So & So's shine through a little more brightly.

“Bored” is perhaps the most memorable hook-feast on the EP and today CityBeat is proud to premiere the brand new music video for the track. The clip — which is layered with shadowy, space-y filters that match the twinkling mystique and swagger of the song — is a collaboration with Trace Horse Studio and was directed by Preston Cochran, with the videography and editing handled by Ian Schofinski.

In a recent social media post, Neighbor explained the emotional background and meaning of “Bored,” saying it’s “a song all about that initial attraction and infatuation with someone. It’s very vulnerable and intimate. Bored is the sobering up of that feeling and flipping the story. Quickly turning a vulnerable feeling inside out and saying eh maybe I was just ‘Bored’ all along.”

Neighbor is heading out on a brief tour later this month, with dates in Texas and Arkansas. For more info, visit her at beccaneighbor.com and on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
