U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, a contender for the Democratic Party's nomination for the 2020 presidential election, will hold an event at Bogart's in Cincinnati next Saturday, according to information on her campaign website and official Facebook page.
"Elizabeth Warren is headed to Ohio," a Facebook event hosted by Warren's verified account says. "She will be hosting an town hall in Cincinnati on Saturday, May 11 as we build our movement for 2020."
Warren is one of more than 20 Democratic Party candidates vying for the chance to take on President Donald Trump. The senior Massachusetts senator and former law professor has floated some policy ideas seemingly aimed at young, progressive voters, including a plan that would forgive up to $50,000 in federal student loan debt for most borrowers and another that would force large, powerful tech companies like Google and Facebook to break up into smaller, competing entities.
But Warren has also run into some controversy. After Trump poked Warren for past claims she made about having Native American ancestry, Warren released a video revealing the results of a genetic ancestry test that she said showed she did have indigenous forebearers. Some Native American groups found that assertion — and the presumed political motives behind it — offensive.
Warren was last in Cincinnati in April last year to campaign with then-Democratic Ohio gubernatorial contender Rich Cordray. At a rally during that visit, Warren proposed spending $100 billion in federal funds to fight the opioid epidemic in Ohio and other hard-hit states.
Warren will also appear in Columbus at a town hall May 10. Her May 11 event in Cincinnati is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m., according to the event on Facebook.
