A local barbecue pop-up and catering service is getting permanent digs this fall. Drunken Hog BBQ announced this morning (Sept. 25) that they will be opening up a location inside of Newport's Wooden Cask Brewing Company.
Drunken Hog BBQ was founded by Trevor Gorman, who decided to run with a newly discovered hobby. Gorman began by serving his barbecue to family and friends with the help of his cousin — and now co-pitmaster — David Beckmeyer in 2010. When the opportunity for a full-time location presented itself to the team, they felt like it was the right time to move forward with the company.
“We have been working towards this since our first event; slowly growing organically over the last couple of years doing pop-ups and catering,” Gorman said in a press release. “So, when the opportunity came to partner with Wooden Cask Brewing and open our first permanent location, we couldn’t pass it up! It felt like the perfect move to grow the business. We have a real passion for BBQ and we are so excited to share that passion with everyone.”
Drunken Hog BBQ offers traditional barbecue favorites like pulled pork, pulled chicken, smoked sausage, brisket, wings and ribs, plus a variety of sides like macaroni and cheese, baked beans and coleslaw.
The restaurant is slated to open at Wooden Cask in mid-October. Drunken Hog will be taking the place of The Farmstead Cafe, which Wooden Cask says they are sad to see go. But, they add, the brewery is excited for the new pairing.
“We look forward to our new partnership with Trevor, David, and Drunken Hog BBQ,” said Karen Schiltz, co-owner and CFO of Wooden Cask, in the press release. “We see how passionate they are about BBQ and we think our customers are really going to enjoy them and their new menu.”
