The Ohio Museums Association, an "advocate for connecting and empowering Ohio museums and museum professionals," has gathered a list of the virtual programming occurring at Ohio museums and institutions while they are closed because of COVID-19.
"Museums across the state know that Ohioans rely on these organizations to provide fun and educational experiences for the whole family," said Ohio Museums Association executive director, Johnna McEntee, in a release. "Especially now, with school closures and many people social distancing at home, Ohio museums are offering many opportunities for the public to engage with their favorite museums even if they are not able to go through the doors.”
The current list features almost 30 museums, with more added daily, they say. Activities run the gamut between virtual tours and exhibit openings to activity downloads and live-streamed music and educational events.
Here are the local listings (from their website):
- Cincinnati Art Museum: The Cincinnati Art Museum hosts an online collection on their website. You can also explore exhibitions and art via the Google Arts & Culture project.
- Cincinnati Museum Center: The Cincinnati Museum Center's Wonder Zone online videos features at-home science experiments, and the "Off the Shelf" curator blog series offers both behind-the-scenes looks into the museum and stories beyond the museum walls. CMC also has early childhood activities available on their Facebook page.
- Cincinnati Zoo: The Cincinnati Zoo is hosting Home Safari Facebook Live series at 3 p.m. daily through April 11.
- The Skirball Museum: The Skirball Museum is introducing a 3D virtual tour of the museum's core exhibition, An Eternal People: The Jewish Experience, and of the new exhibit Striking Medals: 50 Years of the Jewish-American Hall of Fame. The museum also has a gallery guide available for their Mayerson Hall artwork.
