Do Great Grandma Pearl's veal meatballs just absolutely slay? Is Uncle Frank's white chicken chili truly the "best on the planet"? Chef Anthony Sitek of Crown Republic Gastropub will be the judge of that.
The downtown eatery is hosting a family recipe contest this fall, asking members of the community to submit their cherished family recipes for the chance to be featured as specials on the restaurant's menu.
"Crown Republic wants to celebrate the traditions and cultures of every diner inspired by their family recipes," a press release from Crown Republic reads. "You know that dish, the one you can identify the ingredients by its smell; the centerpiece of every family gathering; the one that may or may not even be written down. That’s the dish that Crown Republic wants on their menu."
Sitek will choose three recipes from the submissions and the winning contributors and three of their friends or family members will be invited to a complimentary dinner and drinks, featuring the winning recipes.
The recipes will be featured specials for the month of September and October, with one recipe winner chosen in September and two more in October.
"When Sitek was just discovering his love for food, his grandma Grace DeMatteo showed him the way around the kitchen. She has been an inspiration, and represents Crown Republic's values: cooking with heart and from scratch," the press release says. "Tradition brings us together. It’s a constant in a sea of things that are out of our control. Tradition is what made Crown Republic Gastropub possible, and tradition is what will keep it going."
Submissions are now open and will continue through Sept. 20 at 11:59 p.m.
