Punk Rock Night Cincinnati, an offshoot of a popular live-music showcase in Indianapolis, is presenting its final show this weekend. According to a Facebook event posting, Friday’s Punk Rock Night at the Southgate House Revival (111 E. Sixth St., Newport, southgatehouse.com) will be the final one in its current format, which has been running for nearly four years on a monthly basis at the Northern Kentucky venue.
PRNC is, fittingly, going out with a bang, with several special performances. Along with being a birthday celebration for show organizer and longtime Cincinnati Punk musician Johnny Outlaw, Friday’s Punk Rock night finale will serve as the release party for Rise from the Ashes, a recent four-song EP from The Pistol Mystics, reigning winners of the Cincinnati Entertainment Award in the Punk category.
Some of the greats of the genre will be paid hearty tribute at the final monthly PRNC. The trio Warts & Jorts features local music aces Scotty Wood, Aaron Thomas and Jamie Combs playing the music of Motörhead, while The Barrio Boys is a gang of area Punk veterans (headed up by Outlaw) playing “a carefully curated jukebox of your classic (Punk Rock) favorites from the early heyday of the genre.” The Boys debuted last year at the Punk Rock Night in October.
Hammered with Jesus opens Friday’s show in the Southgate House Revival’s Revival Room at 9 p.m. As has been the case with all PRNC events, Friday’s farewell is another low-dough show — admission is just $6.
