Here's some wholesome news. The Girl Scouts of Kentucky’s Wilderness Road (GSKWR) — with troop members in over 66 Kentucky counties and one in Ohio — have partnered with the state's United Way to donate more than 8,000 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to 49 social service agencies.
Each year, the Girl Scouts typically set aside a portion of their cookies to donate to local community causes, but due to COVID-19 and its impact on door-to-door and public booth sales, the scouts had a surplus to give to its community causes this season.
Through the United Way of the Bluegrass in Lexington, United Way of Northeast Kentucky in Ashland and the United Way of Greater Cincinnati, the cookies will be received by partner nonprofit organizations — including Emergency Shelter for Northern Kentucky, Volunteers of America, Welcome House and HealthPoint Family Care and 16 others locally — by Friday, Aug. 14.
“Supporting our Kentucky community is a key tenet that we work tirelessly to instill in our Girls,” said Susan Douglas, GSKWR’s CEO. “Partnering with local United Way organizations is a seamless way to ensure that those who are most in need in our local communities receive support."
In addition to the nonprofits, the GSKWR also donated 3,000 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies to the staff and residents of Kentucky senior living facilities, including Colonial Heights & Gardens of Florence, via their Kentucky Girls Scouts Cookies for a Cause.
