Playhouse in the Park is taking over the Newport Aquarium for a one-night-only performance of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
Based on Jules Verne’s classic work of science fiction, 20,000 Leagues tells of the travels of the submarine Nautilus, manned by a strange captain with a murky past. Brush up on your improv skills, because in this version of the adventurous tale, the audience is part of the show. Director Daunielle Rasmussen explains in a press release that “the performance will be a progressive play experience, meaning audience members will journey through the Nautilus as members of the Orka Fleet, tasked to apprehend the elusive war criminal Captain Nemo. In this immersive production of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, audience members become part of the action and go on a journey that will lead them into murky waters.”
And what better place than to experience this underwater adventure than the Newport Aquarium? The twists and turns of the story will lead audiences through the aquarium, meaning you’ll get to visit some sea critters along the way as the scene is set against backdrops like the moody neon-lit jellyfish room and the penguins’ arctic habitat.
20,000 Leagues Under the Sea comes to the Newport Aquarium as a part of the Playhouse’s Off the Grid series, the force behind past events like the Stephen King Murder Mystery Pub Crawl and Brew & View interactive movie screenings.
Tickets are available for three performances and a VIP party complete with a live DJ, snacks and an included drink ticket.
