Republicans have taken a stand on this whole debt crisis thing and won’t be moved on the matter. Even if all they could come up with is some second-rate plan. House Speaker John Boehner’s plan will be voted on by the House today and isn’t expected to make it through the Democratic-controlled Senate and even if it does the White House has threatened to veto it.
“And then we’ll only be in this much debt. You see how that works?”
"I think it's the best deal we can get," said Rep. Steve Chabot (R-Ohio), who said he had dropped his opposition to the plan that would involve deep spending cuts in exchange for raising the nation’s $14.3 trillion debt limit. "It is not a perfect plan, certainly, but it is a good step forward," said Rep. Tim Griffin, (R-Ark.), one of the newcomers.
Longtime Jeopardy! Host Alex Trebek was injured after chasing down a burglar in his San Francisco hotel. "It happened at 2:30 a.m., chasing a burglar down the hallway of my San Francisco hotel, when my achilles tendon ruptured and I then fell on carpet, bruising the other leg in process. Surgery on Friday," Trebek said quite humbly.

An atheist group yesterday sued over the inclusion of a cross-shaped steel sculpture called the “World Trade Center Cross” that’s recently been included in the exhibit at the National September 11th Memorial and Museum. The piece was called nothing more than an “ugly piece of wreckage” that “does not represent anything … but horror and death,” by Jane Everhart, a part of the atheist’s suit.
Sarah Palin, in a fit of racially motivated fury absolute normalcy, said that American ideals are “foreign to our president” because of “his background.” Blasting the White House for the current debt debacle, Palin said the current administration is “so addicted to that OPM, other people’s money,” that it’s “not capable of giving the right message” to the American people.
Polygamist leader of the giga-church Yearning For Zion Warren Jeffs today dismissed his legal team at the foot of his sexual assault trial and told the courts he would like to represent himself. Jeffs is charged with sexually assaulting two girls following a 2008 raid on a remote Texas compound (sound familiar) that belonged to his sect, the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. If convicted, he could go to prison for life. Jeffs’ opening arguments were based on the line of reasoning that polygamists don’t have time for “Man Time Mondays,” let alone for committing a crime.
