The number of confirmed tornadoes that swept through the Greater Cincinnati area as a result of the severe storms that occurred on the night of April 8 and into the morning of April 9 keeps growing. As of now, the National Weather Service has said 14 touched down.
None of these tornadoes were severe — most were rated "0" on the Enhanced Fujita Scale. An EF0 rating means it was a weak tornado with winds of 65 to 85 miles per hour. An EF1 rating, still considered "weak," means winds reached between 86 and 110 mph. There were no injuries or fatalities from the storms.
Here's where the tornadoes were confirmed:
- Indian Hill — There was an EF0 tornado that affected 3.3 miles of Indian Hill, starting at Keller Road. It continued southeast to the 8000 block of Blome Road, where trees were reported down. Numerous trees were also knocked down at the intersection of Drake Road and Camargo Road. As the tornado moved southeast, it is possible it briefly lifted, before producing additional damage along properties on Given Road, says the NWS. It had an estimated wind speed of 85 miles per hour.
- Lake Lorelei/Newtonsville — An EF0 tornado was confirmed in Lake Lorelei/Newtonsville in Clermont/Brown counties. According to the NWS, it caused tree and structural damage near Newtonsville, with estimated wind speeds of about 70 mph. The tornado produced additional tree and structural damage near Lake Lorelei, with estimated wind speeds of about 80 mph.
- Edenton — This EF0 tornado in Clermont County caused tree damage on Garrison Spurling Road, and roof damage to homes on Edenton Pleasant Plain Road, says the NWS. It reached estimated maximum winds speed of 75 mph.
- Fayetteville — An EF0 tornado in Brown County caused tree damage along its path, with some structural damage noted to a property on State Route 131, says the NWS. It traveled about 2.4 miles and had an estimated maximum wind speed of 75 mph.
- Blanchester — This EF0 tornado touched down in far southwestern Clinton County just west of SR-123. It moved east/southeast across SR-123, lifting just across the Brown County border, says the NWS. Estimated maximum wind speed was 65 mph.
- Gallatin County — There was an EF0 tornado that touched down 1 mile east of Warsaw in Gallatin County Kentucky. It traveled .5 miles and reached estimated wind speeds of 75 mph.
- Dry Ridge — An EF1 tornado touched down about four and a half miles north west of Dry Ridge, traveled about two and half miles and reached estimated top wind speeds of 85 to 90 mph.
- Mount Olivet — An EF0 tornado touched down in Robertson County. The NWS says it damaged structures along Highway 165 north of town, and then went east across Brierly Ridge Road. Tree damage was also seen along the path damage. It reached estimated maximum wind speeds of 85 mph.
- Mays Lick — The NWS says an EF0 tornado touched down southwest of Mays Lick and damaged structures and trees along its path. The damage was mostly found along and north of Raymond Road (Highway 324). It traveled 1.2 miles and reached estimated maximum wind speeds of 80 mph.
- Falmouth — An EF1 tornado touched down in Falmouth, Kentuky. The NWS says, the first evidence of tornadic damage occurred along Hogg Ridge Road. The tornado moved east-southeast, producing damage along its path that impacted West State Highway 22, Morgan 4 Oaks Road, Liberty Ridge Road, US 27, and McKinneysburg Road. Damage included the destruction of several barns and also numerous trees and power poles being snapped or knocked down. The end of the damage occurred along Milford Road, where debris from a destroyed barn was thrown into an adjacent field. Based on the damage, this tornado produced winds of around 100 mph.
- Versailles — An EF1 tornado touched down in this part of Indiana. According to the NWS, A brief tornado touched down on the southwest side of Versailles, damaging homes, businesses and trees along its path. Ground and aerial photos confirmed a debris pattern and placement associated with a tornado. Damage further west between Versailles and Holton was more indicative of straight line wind damage. The tornado reached estimated maximum wind speeds of 86 mph.
- Dillsboro — An EF0 tornado touched down in Dillsboro, Indiana, causing roof and siding damage to homes and barns. It traveled 2.6 miles and reached estimated maximum winds speeds of 70 mph,.
- Western Ohio County, Indiana — A tornado was confirmed near Dillsboro and Rising Sun, Indiana. This EF0 touched down along Milton Bear Road and traveled to the Palmer Road, damaging rooftops, siding, barns and trees. It traveled 5.8 miles and had estimated maximum wind speeds of 70 to 75 mph.
- Rising Sun — A second, weaker EF0 tornado was confirmed near Rising Sun. It hit the 7300 block of Salem Ridge Road and stretched 5.25 miles, with diffuse and sparse damage to roofs, siding, power poles and trees, says the NWS. It reached estimated maximum wind speeds of 65 mph.
