Music Tonight: The “Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival,” featuring Metal faves and chartbusters like Godsmack, Disturbed, Megadeth and many others, comes to Riverbend today. In fact, metalheads are probably “pre-gaming” right now for the “Warped Tour”-like fest because it starts at 2:15 p.m. this afternoon. Check the music blogs for Amy Harris’ interviews with Mayhemers like Trivium, Machine Head and Straight Line Stitch (and look for one more interview — with Godsmack — later today). If you’re going and want some help with your itinerary, below is today’s full Mayhem schedule of performances and a retrospective/promo video clip.—-

The best Hasidic Jew Reggae singer/MC going (and perhaps the only artist to ever cite Bob Marley, Phish, God Street Wine and Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach as main musical influences), Matisyahu, brings his slinky grooves to Bogart’s tonight. If you’re a Matis virgin planning on attending, get a taste of what to expect in the below trailer for his latest live release, Matisyahu - Live at Stubb's: Vol II, which came out earlier this year. Showtime is 7:30 p.m.
If you prefer a little cello in your music, you’re in luck — cello-driven Chamber AltRock band Rasputina plays the Southgate House tonight at 9 p.m. Canadian Chamber Folk band The Wilderness of Manitoba opens things up. It’s kinda like a mini MusicNOW festival, with fancier clothes and hair-dos and less beard-age. You’ll likely hear a few interesting covers if you go, like the below take on a Pink Floyd classic from the regional music program, Woodsongs (move ahead to the 1:20 mark to skip the intro).
