If you have a passion for telling important stories, sharing information about what's new and noteworthy in Cincinnati, engaging with the city's food, music, arts and culture — and if you actually just care about good journalism in general — consider applying for an internship with CityBeat.
We're currently looking for college students with backgrounds in journalism, photography and communications to join us this fall.
This isn't your average internship. You'll have the opportunity to write and document stories under the guidance of experienced reporters, editors and photographers.
But, it is going to be a weird semester.
Most of us are still working remotely and interns will need to adapt with us as we figure out the best ways to write, report, photograph and communicate with Cincinnati during this mess. Which, for now, means that we will be working together through email, chat, video calls, etc.
Internships are unpaid, so that also means we'll need to work with your college or university to get you course credit.
For our Editorial Internship, students should be working toward a journalism major or certificate. We're looking for people interested in writing about hard news, food, arts, music or a combination. Your application should include your preferences, a resume and recent clips. Clips don't have to be published — stories can be something you've written for class. All interns need to have taken at least a news writing and reporting course, a journalism law and ethics course and have a working knowledge of AP Style. If you've taken feature writing or magazine writing courses, even better.
For our Photography and Digital Internship, students should have experience with photographing portraits, events and still life, and will gain experience in sourcing and building slideshows, minor coding and creating digital editorial content.
If you're interested in our Editorial Internship, please send an email to [email protected] with:
- Three writing samples
- A cover letter
- And a resume.
If you're interested in our Photography and Digital Internship, please send an email to [email protected] with:
- Your website or portfolio
- A resume
- And a cover letter.
The deadline to apply is August 12. We're looking forward to hearing from you.
