If you’re not reading the print edition of this, Paula Poundstone has some concerns.
The veteran stand-up, in recent years, has become an advocate for eliminating screen time for children. “There’s no question it’s had a negative effect on or society as a whole,” she says, “and I know people can drudge around and find one or two things that were helpful. But, let’s be honest, in a clear-eyed evaluation of pros and cons, the cons kick the pros asses.”
At first, she thought it was a great idea to have more screens and digital devices in schools. Then she didn’t. “The evidence is overwhelming: There’s very little positive impact. The only positives I have read about is kids who use screen devices can recognize patterns. Great, they won’t be confused by wallpaper.”
Onstage, Poundstone keeps it much lighter, discussing her day-to-day life as well as the goings on of various audience members.
