The Long Surrender, the new album from longtime local music greats Over the Rhine, won’t be released until Feb. 8, but the Joe Henry-produced full-length is already garnering attention and praise.—-
Yesterday, American Songwriter magazine posted an excellent Q&A with OTR’s married braintrust, Linford Detweiler and Karin Bergquist, in which the couple discusses the new album and their artistic process (check it out here). Meanwhile, the album (self-released but distributed nationally and featuring some guest vocals from fellow critics’ darling Lucinda Williams) has received a smattering of mostly positive review across the Web, including detailed, thoughtful critiques from Stereo Subversion, suite101.com and Glide Magazine, among others.
The band’s tour for The Long Surrender kicks off in Boston on March 25 and keeps OTR on the road until they return home for a collaborative performance with the Cincinnati Ballet. Infamous Love Songs pairs OTR’s music (played live) with the choreography of Cincinnati Ballet’s Associate Artistic Director Devon Carney, Exhale Dance Tribe co-founders and artistic directors Missy Lay Zimmer and Andrew Hubbardoffer, and Donald Byrd, the artistic director of Spectrum Dance Theater in Seattle. The production will be staged at the Aronoff Center April 29 (8 p.m.) and 30 (with shows at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.). Click here to purchase advanced tickets.
