COVID-19 has brought with it tough times for just about every community in our city and the world. Many people find themselves needing a helping hand as they face insecurity and concern for their families and futures. Because of this, facilities like shelters and food banks are more critical than ever. In response to this need, local clothing line Originalitees is doing what they can to help the Cincinnati community.

Originalitees is based in Cincinnati and designs shirts, hoodies, hats, socks and other clothes and accessories that are tailored to local and state-wide pride. Recently, they’ve announced their newest line, Unity Within the Community. The line features a shirt ($25) and tote bag ($13), and with each purchase of either product, a portion of the proceeds will go directly to the Freestore Foodbank. The proceeds will allow the Freestore Foodbank to provide 24 meals per shirt and 15 meals per tote bag.

“Our company is always looking for ways to utilize our platform to serve the community,” Originalitees owner Khisha Asubuhi said in a recent press release. “It is an honor to collaborate with Freestore Foodbank in their important work feeding our friends, loved ones, and neighbors.”

Originalitees isn’t new to reaching out to the community. Their "Product of Public Schools" designs help support Cincinnati Public Schools. They’ve also partnered with Sew Masks 4 Cincy to help contribute to the creation and distribution of hand-sewn facial masks and other hygiene items for the city. Unity Within the Community is the newest extension of Originalitees' track record of lending a helping hand to those in need.

And the new line is a welcomed gesture.

“We have definitely seen an increased need since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis,” said Laura Altenau, events and fundraising manager for Freestore Foodbank. “The financial donation from Originalitees will allow us to meet that need and continue to get the food to our neighbors.”
