New Burgers at The Banks

The Banks district is finally starting to take shape with the Grand Opening Wednesday of Johnny Rockets. Franchise owner Rick Thompson has brought a unique version of Johnny Rockets to his new location across from Great American Ball Park, as the restaurant is decked out in baseball memorabilia and offers new menu items keeping with the theme.—-

There is Dusty’s Bacon Burger named after Reds manager Dusty Baker, and the Lotta Donnata burger with a Samoan twist in honor of Bengal’s defensive tackle Donnata Peko. One dollar from the sale of each of these specialty burgers will be donated to their namesakes favorite charity. The new Banks Shanks with three smoked pork shanks on the bone, served with a Pan-Asian sauce,  are pretty tasty and need to be experienced. Of course, all the usual burgers, sandwiches and starters from the regular Johnny Rockets menu are also available.

Menu items aren’t all that’s new at this sports-themed Johnny Rockets. Most importantly, and what was a big surprise to me when I checked out the place at a preview, there is a full-service bar serving some kick-ass cocktails, wine and beer. To round it out, there is a breakfast menu offered daily from 7-11 a.m., which features eggs, pancakes, breakfast sandwiches and shakes, and what I can't wait to order, a breakfast banana split! Finally, there is an outdoor patio and walk-up order window for those on the go.

Regular operating hours will be 7 am to 2 am daily. Johnny Rockets is located across from the Reds Hall of Fame at 191 Freedom Way. 513-834-6110.
