The unintentionally hilarious glories of the 1980s are resurrected in Nick Prueher and Joe Pickett’s Found Footage Festival, a treasure trove of vintage VHS footage the duo has unearthed by scouring garage sales, thrift stores and dumpsters across the U.S. Kind of like the video version of Found magazine, the traveling festival is a nostalgia-laden smorgasbord of discarded, cheesy gems, as Pickett and Prueher present and comment upon — in person, Mystery Science Theater 3000-style — clips that range from lo-fi aerobics and sex-enhancement videos to retail commercials gone seriously awry.
Now on its fifth anniversary tour, the 2010 program features an array of heinous Saturday morning cartoons (like Rambo and Rubik, the Amazing Cube), home-movie footage from a 1985 Heavy Metal Festival and a 1987 video-dating reel found by comedian David Cross, among much more jaw-droppingly fun fare.
