The old creative adage that great art results from great pain is no mere cliché. One look at Meg Myers’ hardscrabble childhood — a gypsy existence that included stops in Tennessee, Ohio and Florida and situations that forced her into an unnaturally early adulthood — and it’s hardly a stretch to hear Myers’ therapeutic use of cleansing volume and soul-searing lyrical examination as a way to exorcise those emotional demons.
In fact, Myers’ musical pursuits began when she was a teenager; she taught herself to play guitar and piano, and singing and writing became a way to escape from her oppressive existence and express her inner torment. Read more about Myers in this week's Sound Advice.
