Bruce Riley’s paintings are devilishly clever abstractions built from laying down puddles of dazzling syrupy color. The transparency of the motifs he employs result in prismatic surprises of new colors formed all over the place. High-gloss and heavy on pleasure, these works can hardly be understood from reproductions or computer-based images. But Cincinnati’s luck would have it that the Chicago-based painter is participating in Miller Gallery’s Always on a Sunday: A Summer Series of Artist Mini-Shows. Each week throughout the summer the gallery will mount a new solo exhibition with openings from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. every Sunday through Aug. 16. This Sunday, Riley will be presenting his latest body of work.
