National Nude Recreation Week starts Saturday July 14, but you can get a head start this weekend at Paradise Gardens, one of the area’s two nudist resorts. From 9 a.m. until 6 p.m., first-time visitors receive free admission at the facility’s Open House. The 37-acre resort is located on Blue Rock Road, just west of I-275. A few years ago it came under new ownership and has been making improvements ever since. While it looks a lot like a typical camping resort, there is that one major difference. The grounds, for the most part, are heavily wooded and feature an Olympic-size swimming pool, sauna and a fishing pond with paddle boats. Nude volleyball is popular, with organized leagues that are always looking for new players and teams. Not sure you’re ready to socialize in the buff? You can just lie out and sunbath on the lawn, or hike one of the many nature trails. It’s a great way to enjoy the outdoors and stay somewhat cool during hot summer days.
