A good overzealous band bio can make for quite the unintentional treat. Take what Simo and/or its management cooked up when someone decided to go off the rails with the hard sell. According to the bio as it appears on the Southgate House Revival's page, Simo is “the new breed of modern Rock,” frontman and namesake JD Simo “is destined for guitar sainthood,” the three-piece devised “an album’s worth of future classics” soon after assembling in 2010 and even the group's home base of Nashville, Tenn., is no less than “the new Rock & Roll mecca.”

Breathless praise aside, the outfit's 2011 record, Simo, is workmanlike Psychedelic/Classic Rock with a good number of highlights, including the acoustic-gone-full-throttle-Rock rush of “Young Man, Old Man” and the boozy, midnight-hour-in-the-dive-bar Blues of “What's On Your Mind.”

Simo plays Thursday, May 23 with The Mudpies at Southgate House Revival in Newport. Buy tickets, check out performance times and get venue details here.
