Ohmstead (founded by and named after late Cincy band The Four Ohms) has been providing an eclectic mix of music in the great outdoors for the past 14 years. This Friday and Saturday, Ohmstead returns at the VFW campground in Franklin, Ohio (9728 Claude-Thomas Road), about 40 miles north of Cincy.
Popular local Reggae/Roots/Jam/Rock crew Elementree Livity Project plays both nights. Friday, music kicks off at 3 p.m. with Reggae/Rock band Rockstead, while Hip Hop collective YNO/Treehouse also performs. Touring acts on Friday include Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad and Jahman Brahman.
On Saturday, music at Ohmstead begins at 11 a.m. Local acts include Freekbass (who doesn’t play a lot locally), Junya Be, The Magic Lightnin’ Boys, Don’t Fear the Satellites, The Ohms, Souse, Eyeris Wide and The Almighty Get Down. Glostik Willy and Tropidelic are some of the national/regional artists performing Saturday.
Presale tickets are no longer available. There will be general admission tickets available at the gates starting Friday. Visit ohmstead.net for the full schedule, ticket and camping info and more.

More Local Notes
• This Friday and Saturday, Stanley’s Pub (323 Stanley Ave., Columbia-Tusculum, stanleyspub.com) presents its 14th-annual Summer Music Festival, featuring a wide-array of “Jam.” Muncie, Ind. group Glostik Willy and Dayton, Ohio’s Subterranean join locals Strange Mechanics and Dr. Foxcroft for Friday’s festivities. On Saturday, progressive Bluegrass faves Rumpke Mountain Boys play two sets, joined by fellow Cincinnati bands Jerry’s Little Band and Nevele, plus Columbus, Ohio’s Sassafraz.
Music begins at 6 p.m. each day. Tickets are $12 or $20 for a two-day pass and can be purchased at cincyticket.com.
• You can catch some of the next generation of Jazz professionals this Saturday at Urban Artifact (1660 Blue Rock St., Northside, artifactbeer.com) when the venue presents a “back to school” concert featuring ensembles formed at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music. The all-ages show begins at 6 p.m. and features CCM groups The Busters, Jazz for Kids, Clifton Collective and Ryan Fine and The Media. There is no cover charge, but donations will be collected for the City Gospel Mission’s Whiz Kids music program, which provides music tutoring for kids across the Greater Cincinnati area.
• The current Foo Fighters tour is skipping over Cincinnati, but the folks at School of Rock Mason, which provides lessons and helps young musicians learn about performing Rock music in a band situation, is offering a chance for local fans to hear the Foos’ music in concert. Students from the school are prepping for a Foo Fighters tribute show at Oakley’s 20th Century Theater on Aug. 26.
The show just happens to fall on an off day for Dave Grohl and Co., between shows in Pittsburgh and Indianapolis, so the school is hoping that perhaps the band could swing through Cincy to check out its talented students. Those who’d like to help are being asked to share posts from the school’s Facebook page (facebook.com/SchoolofRockMason) or Twitter account (@SoRMason) and tag them with #FoosInCincy, with the hopes that someone with the band will see them. Proceeds from the Aug. 26 show will be donated to the Rock School Scholarship Fund, a charity the Foos also support.
