Events: Movieoke

The Southern Ohio Filmmakers Association hosts Movieoke, like karaoke but with movies. Reenact scenes from your favorite films reading the subtitles like lyrics. $10 suggested donation gets you a snack. 8:30 p.m. at Below Zero Lounge.

Not everyone can sing — or at least sing well — but almost everyone can talk. And if you can also repeat memorized lines or read words on a screen, then you can participate in the Southern Ohio Filmmaker Association’s Movieoke at Below Zero Lounge.

As you can probably assume from the spelling of the word, Movieoke is like Karaoke but with movies. Instead of singing, you act out your favorite scenes. There will be a monitor on stage playing the scene from the movie of your choice with subtitled dialogue. There won’t be any volume, so you and your friends have to reenact what’s going on onscreen using the subtitles like lyrics. Some props and DVDs will be provided, but to make sure you get the scene and costumes you want, bring your own. No pirated DVDs allowed.

The event is free but a $10 donation is suggested, which gets you a coupon for a free snack pack from the mobile food stand, Café de Wheels. Comedienne Linda Gambino will be the special emcee for the evening. Everything starts at 8:30 p.m., but get there early to register for Movieoke.
