Chatham County Line

Chatham County Line has always played Bluegrass music its own way. The band can veer from straight ahead Bluegrass to Beatles-esque Folk and other genres at the drop of a hat while servicing its original songs at all times. But what sets Chatham County Line apart from other eclectic acoustic bands are its live shows, which have had as much to do with the group’s loyal fan base growing as its recordings.

When Chatham County Line comes to Newport this week, it will as headliners again after a stint opening for two high-profile acts on the road: The Avett Brothers and Jerry Douglas Presents the Earls of Leicester. The band features guitarist, songwriter and harmonica slinger Dave Wilson; John Teer on mandolin, fiddle and vocals; Chandler Holt on banjo, guitar and vocals; and Greg Readling on bass, pedal steel guitar and keyboards.

Chatham County Line hails from Raleigh, N.C., and has seen its hometown showcased in a big way since the International Bluegrass Music Association’s World of Bluegrass convention and street fair relocated there from Nashville, Tenn., two years ago. The weeklong event has been a success, to the tune of 180,000 ’grass lovers showing up to hear local boys Chatham County Line and more.

The band’s latest album is Tightrope, filled with its trademark atmospheric story-songs and romps.

CHATHAM COUNTY LINE plays at Southgate House Revival Sunday, March 15. Find tickets/more info here .
