Eight teams from around the area will compete in a daylong gentlemanly competition of 1869-style baseball. As Cincinnati is the home of the first fully professional baseball team, the 1869 Cincinnati Red Stockings, it’s only fitting to honor this sporting tradition.

The Norwood Highlanders are hosting the inaugural Heart of Vintage Baseball event, pitting teams against each other to gain the rightful title of supreme baseball club. Participating clubs include the Highlanders, Cincinnati Red Stockings, Cincinnati Buckeyes, Losantiville Black Stockings, Dayton Clodbusters, Tippecanoe Canal Jumpers, Rising Sun Belle Rivers and the Batesville Lumbermen.

No gloves, no multi-million dollar contracts — just fun and sport. Games will be going all day, so bring a lawn chair, blanket or portable wicker chair and tea table Downton-Abbey-season-three-cricket-episode-style, and enjoy hours and hours of baseball.

Games start at 11 a.m. Free; $8 parking. 6201 Kellogg Ave., California, 513-232-8230, coneyislandpark.com
