The extensively researched book tells the largely unknown story of the Oglala Sioux warrior chief, who led the only army to ever defeat the United States in a war, which took two long years to accomplish (1866-1868). Under Red Cloud's guidance, the Sioux once had control of 20 percent of the contiguous U.S., which makes his obscure profile all the more surprising — and this book all the more necessary.
