Chicago Farmer

Chi-town Folk singer/songwriter Cody Diekhoff is better known by his stage name, Chicago Farmer. The moniker reflects Diekhoff’s current base in the Windy City yet also refers to the small town of Delavan, Ill., where he was raised. Delavan is a farm country hamlet of less than 2,000 people located about halfway between Chicago and St. Louis. Therefore, the name signals Diekhoff’s appreciation of blue collar folks, those that work the dirt as well others that have to maneuver through the grime of the big city.

Chicago Farmer’s latest album is the cleverly titled Backenforth, Il. More influenced by John Prine than John Mellencamp, the recording finds Diekhoff filling out his musical vision with full instrumentation on songs like “Everybody In This Town,” “The Twenty Dollar Bill” and “The Jon Stokes Prison Break Blues.”

Chicago Farmer’s local appearance is part of the third annual Cincy Groove Music Festival, presented by local music website cincygroove.com.

CHICAGO FARMER plays Saturday, Nov. 22 at Southgate House Revival. Find tickets/more info here .
