American Sniper

Continuing the 2014 awards season run of films devoted to true life stories, Clint Eastwood helms this account of the toll of modern warfare on Chris Kyle (Bradley Cooper), a Navy Seal sniper who earned distinction for having the most credited kills in a war zone during his four tours of duty. The central issue, though, is how such a legendary warrior transitions back to civilian life with his wife (Sienna Miller) and young kids. American Sniper, culled from Kyle’s own account of his experiences, is decidedly in Eastwood’s wheelhouse, and based on the early buzz, it will further cement Cooper’s position as a serious-minded A-list talent due to his willingness and commitment to transform himself into a physical and psychological lethal weapon.
