As linebacker for and defensive captain of the Cincinnati Bengals, Dhani Jones’ Sundays are pretty much booked up for the next few months. But Dhani isn’t just an autumn visitor to the area. His local ties just got stronger with the opening of the Bowtie Café, a Mount Adams eatery dedicated to coffee, conversation and cocktails. The cafe feature homemade food with locally sourced ingredients for breakfast, lunch and light suppers, with a full coffee menu, 11 craft beers by the bottle, a simple, well-chosen wine list and full bar. The charities that Dhani supports — which are many — are integrated into his café business and the “cause” aspect of the project is personally very important to Dhani and his business partners. CityBeat: What’s the last great meal you ate and where did you eat it?
Dhani Jones
: If I can’t talk about the turkey sandwich from Bowtie Café, then I think the best meal I’ve had recently was an order of Double-Dip Wings at Mt. Adams Bar and Grille, with a Greek salad on the side. I’m a healthy eater, but sometimes when you’ve had a hard day at work, you have to treat yourself. Everything in moderation! And overall, the Cincinnati dining scene is very creative.

CB: Out of the three elements of Bowtie Café — coffee, conversation, and cocktails which one is the most important?
DJ
: Conversation. I hope people will come here to talk about things that matter. Without conversation, the world stops. It’s a day starter, and it is the best way to finish and review your day. And not superficial conversation, but deep conversation. That’s what really links people together.
