Comedian Henry Phillips has just released a new CD called Let’s Get Suicidal as alter-ego Jose Suicidio, which is a companion to his hit web series Henry’s Kitchen.
“I’m a bachelor, so every time I cook, I go to YouTube to see if there’s a new recipe I can try,” he says. Along with the professionally produced clips, Phillips noticed dozens of amateur posts suggested by YouTube. “And it’s like these psycho-looking people. Like some guy living in his mom’s attic showing people how to make chili. I thought ‘I’ve got to make my own version of these.’”
He quietly released his in the hopes that people would stumble upon them and think they were real. “That’s always been my favorite kind of humor. Same thing with my music.”
The CD features over-the-top-songs including “Holy Guacamole,” from his cooking show.
