No one else celebrates baseball's opening day like Cincinnati. Although it’s not marked on any calendars, Opening Day has been a holiday celebrated by Cincinnatians since the 1900s.
This year’s 91st Findlay Market Opening Day Parade will be led by Grand Marshal Johnny Bench starting at 10:30 a.m. on Monday.
In the beginning the parade only consisted of three cars: one to pull the Reds, another to carry the opposing team and the last one to carry the marching band. Initially the purpose for the parade was to promote baseball and invite fans down to the stadium, but throughout the years it's changed into a citywide celebration and procession.
The parade now consists of red convertibles and truck brigade, floats, local high school bands, local politicians and (of course) CityBeat’s annual rolling concert stage featuring a surprise local musical act. Come down to show your support and love for this American tradition by joining in the parade, which starts at Findlay Market, heads down Race Street, turns on Fifth Street and winds up at the Great American Ballpark. Then find a local bar or restaurant big-screen TV to watch the Reds take on the Cardinals.
