Lynne Hamons (NO, HER NAME ISN'T A PIG PUN) JUMPED AT THE CHANCE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE BIG PIG GIG AFTER SEEING CHICAGO'S COWS LAST SUMMER. SHE ROPED HER SONS — Steve AND Scott — INTO HELPING. STEVE JOKES, "SHE NEEDED THE MANPOWER."
TOGETHER THEY HAVE CREATED THREE PIGS: Maisownette (FOR THE MAISONETTE GROUP), Styler Davidson Sow-tain (FOR JACK ROUSE ASSOCIATES) AND Grillin' Ribs (for JTM Food Group).
Grillin' Ribs, one of the few hands-on hogs, is a grill with the pig's meat and bones roasting inside. It's generated some reactions, but Steve defends it, saying, "It's a little disturbing. But isn't that what art is supposed to do?"
Steve is a freelance commercial artist. He's still "finding a satisfying medium." His current project is an office renovation and that's the work he's looking to continue. "(I want to) provide identification through more than just words and pictures for corporate types," he says. After a pause: "Does that sound lofty?"
Brother Scott, DAAP product and industrial design graduate, has an equally hard time remaining serious. He's a designer for Hasbro in the Tonka division. "I've always been a big kid anyway," he says. "Now I get to make toys that are going to make kids happy."
