Aficionados of the local literary scene certainly know the name Brock Clarke — specifically as a onetime University of Cincinnati creative writing professor, as the former fiction editor at The Cincinnati Review and as the gifted author of such sly novels as An Arsonist’s Guide to Writers’ Homes in New England and Exley. Now Clarke, who moved to Maine a few years back to teach creative writing at Bowdoin College, is dropping his latest novel, The Happiest People in the World, a satire about a Danish cartoonist who is relocated by the CIA to upstate New York. Clarke discusses his new novel at Joseph-Beth.
