Martin Tucker was a retired painting and drawing professor at the University of Cincinnati’s Design, Architecture, Art and Planning (DAAP) School of Art for 37 years before he passed away last March.

The first in his own family to attend college (via the GI Bill), the Korean War Army veteran touched the work and lives of many UC School of Art alums — all while continuing his own artistic practice. With the assistance of the artist’s widow, Ruth Tucker, DAAP Galleries Director Aaron Cowan has curated a selection of the late artist’s work for Martin Tucker: Remembered. Often portraying ordinary objects, Tucker’s work celebrates the beauty of the mundane by depicting everyday moments.

Exhibition reception: 5-7 p.m. Gallery hours Sunday-Thursday through Oct. 13. Free. Dorothy W. & C. Lawson Reed, Jr. Gallery, DAAP complex, Fifth Floor, University of Cincinnati campus, Clifton Heights, daap.uc.edu/galleries/reed_gallery.html
